Modifying the CopyNES to use flash carts

Now that your CopyNES is installed and working, you may wish to add a single wire to allow it to program flash dev carts. If so, here's how. You will need a single piece of wire, preferrably 24-26 gauge, solid. I use telephone wire. Stranded will work, but it's more of a PITA. You can solder to either the cart connector or to the expansion connector. The cart connector method is shown first, and at the end is the alternate expansion connector wiring. Choose whichever one works best for you.

Solder here

Count over 16 pins from the right side. This is where the wire will attach. Add a little solder to the flat are of the pin, to tin it. This will make attaching the wire easier. Next, strip the end of the wire and tin it too. Finally, solder it to the pin. You can double check the pin by grabbing an NES cart board. Above every 5 pins or so, you should see pin numbers. On the SLROM board I used, it is marked as pin 16.

Cart pin soldering

Loop the wire down and around to the CopyNES board as shown. The wire solders at "CN4". CN4 only has 1 pin, so solder the wire there. And that completes the mod!

Another view of the hookup. Sorry about the bad pics, my camera does not like things with a large depth of field.

You can hook up the wire to the useless expansion connector if you wish. This would allow easier removal of the cart connector if so desired, since it will not be tethered down. To accomplish this, solder the wire to the 7th pin from the left, in the first row as shown. You can confirm this pin with a meter if you'd like, check continuity between it and pin 16 on the cart connector. Note that pin 1 is on that large power plane, so don't forget to count it!
